Campnest
For this UX portfolio project, I developed a concept for CampNest, an all-in-one camping supply app. Inspired by a random prompt, I crafted a minimalist brand identity, including logo, color scheme, and UI elements that reflect the adventurous and practical spirit of camping. Every design aspect—icons, layout, and branding—is original and tailored to enhance user accessibility and intuitive navigation. This project showcases my ability to create cohesive, user-centered app designs from initial concept to polished prototype.
To kick off the Emphasize phase, I begin by immersing myself in user research through methods such as observation, contextual inquiry, and AI-driven insights (for this fictional project). This process allows me to gather valuable data and create empathy maps, ensuring a deep understanding of user needs, pain points, and behaviors.
Using the research listed above, my next step was to create user personas, intended to represent CampNest’s target audience using research-driven fictional users.
After developing a diverse set of personas to accurately represent the target audience of CampNest, I moved on to the next crucial step: mapping out the user journeys. By analyzing the specific needs, goals, and pain points of each persona, I was able to create detailed, thoughtful journey maps that visualize the paths users take as they interact with the platform. This step is essential for identifying key touchpoints, potential obstacles, and opportunities for enhancing the overall user experience. Each journey was carefully crafted to ensure that the design process aligns with user expectations, ultimately ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience tailored to the needs of CampNest’s audience.
After analyzing the user journey maps, I synthesized the insights into clear problem statements and hypothesis statements, grounded in the needs and behaviors of the user personas. These statements were designed to define the core challenges users face, as well as the opportunities for design solutions. By developing these hypotheses, I was able to focus the design direction and create a foundation for ideation, ensuring that the product would address real user pain points and deliver meaningful improvements to the user experience.
Problem Statements:
Riley is a nature enthusiast who needs lightweight, sustainable camping gear because they struggle to find eco-friendly products that are both functional and affordable, and they seek brands that align with their environmental values.
Jessica is a busy mom who needs simple, family-friendly camping gear that is easy to use and reliable because she struggles to find products that meet her family’s needs without wasting time on complicated, unreliable options.
Sam is a beginner camper who needs affordable, easy-to-use gear and educational resources because he is overwhelmed by the vast number of product choices and lacks the expertise to confidently select the right equipment.
Walter is an experienced camper who needs advanced, durable, and lightweight gear that supports longer trips because he frequently camps in remote areas and needs gear that balances performance with portability for extended stays.
Priya is an experienced outdoor enthusiast who needs high-performance, multifunctional gear suitable for extreme conditions because she requires specialized equipment that can withstand rugged environments while being lightweight and durable.
Hypothesis Statements:
If CampNest highlights eco-conscious brands, then Riley will choose products that align with their environmental values.
If Jessica can quickly find family-friendly camping gear with clear reviews, then she will feel confident in her purchase and save time on shopping.
If Sam has access to affordable starter kits and educational resources, then he will feel more prepared and confident to go camping.
If CampNest provides an easy way to reorder his favorite gear, then Walter will quickly restock and be better prepared for future camping trips.
If Priya can access detailed product specs and expert reviews, then she will confidently select high-performance gear that meets her needs for extreme outdoor conditions.
Now that we’ve thoroughly considered the needs of the user, it’s time to develop value propositions:

We will measure effectiveness by [describe how you will measure the impact].” to create goal statements.
